FAQ – Nigel Unsworth Studios
Why should we choose a professional wedding photographer:
There are many reasons to choose a professional photographer for your wedding to ensure you have amazing images that you will treasure.
You can’t afford to risk having an amateur or inexperienced photographer capture your memories because there is no second chance. Too many times a bride and groom have regretted the decision they made when choosing a photographer. They will look at other photographers work and no their images could have been so much better.
Make sure your photographer is an accredited member of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP), has insurance, a registered business and uses professional grade equipment with backup cameras etc.
It doesn’t take long to do a bit of research and ask what equipment they will use on your wedding day.
It also helps if your photographer has had ‘Nationally Recognised’ training in photography.
Your photographer should be passionate and have great people skills. A poor relationship between the clients and photographer will result is poor images.
What albums do you use in your packages:
I use Queensberry Albums in my packages. Queensberry Albums are world renowned for their high quality albums and are handcrafted in New Zealand using the finest materials.
It is important to view display albums your photographer is supplying to see the quality for yourself. There is a huge difference in the quality of different wedding albums and therefore can be a huge difference in price between photographers.
It is important to know what album you are getting. I chose Queensberry Albums because they are a high end product and in my opinion second to none. More information and images can be found at:
Do you travel for weddings:
Yes, we often travel interstate for weddings and we have shot weddings in Melbourne, Brisbane, The Gold Coast, South Australia, Sydney, Canberra, NSW South Coast, and Newcastle etc.
There is no travel fee charged to weddings in the Berry/Wollongong and Southern Highlands areas. Weddings outside these areas will be calculated on an individual basis depending on the location. Weddings in Melbourne and Brisbane will be charged a flat rate travel fee of $800.
Destination weddings will be also be calculated on an individual basis depending on location and length of time.
Who will be our photographer on our wedding day:
I am the principle photographer for all weddings we do. I sometimes use an assistant/secondary photographer for larger weddings however I will be the main photographer at all locations.
How long do you need for photos:
To get the best photos possible preparation and time is important. I normally photograph the groom first and then the bride, alternatively around half the weddings we do we photograph the groom at the church around half an hour before the bride arrives.
As a general rule please allow for the following times:
Groom preparations: 45mins
Bride preparations: At least an hour. (after hair and makeup is finished)
Family photos: 30 mins
Location photos: Around an hour plus travel time.
Do we receive the high-resolution images:
Yes I do provide the high-resolution images in all my packages. They are for personal use only and cannot be used for commercial use without consent.
If a hairdresser or florist asks to use any image you must get permission from Nigel Unsworth Studios but you are free to print any image for personal use.
Are the photos we receive edited and how many do we get:
All images I provide clients are individually edited and post processed to produce the best colour and quality possible.
Professional retouching, artistic editing, sepia and black & white images are included as part of this process.
The final product is a reflection of my work so I do not give out unedited photos.
I spend a lot of time individually editing each image to a professional level and an average wedding will receive around 800 edited ‘print ready’ images. You get all the images I take on the day, I only delete test shots, duplicates etc.
My aim is to tell the story of your wedding and every wedding will vary with the amount of photos taken.
Can you enlarge photos, supply prints etc:
Yes, additional prints or matted framed prints are also available for you and your guests. All our packages also include the high-resolution edited images so you can print your own images for individual non-commercial if you prefer to do it yourself.
One thing to consider though is all images I provide are in Adobe 98 colour spacing at 300 ppi. Please check with the printing lab you use if they can print with these specifications.
Can wedding guests purchase prints from you:
Yes, all images will be on an online gallery and numbered for around 6 months after your wedding. If any guest would like a particular print all they have to do is send an email with image number, print size and quantity required.
Images will be sent to them directly. Framing is also available.
Can we meet before our wedding day:
I always prefer to meet clients before their wedding day. It’s a chance to discuss the style of photography you want and also get to know each other.
I will arrange a meeting after booking confirmation to discuss your photography and packages etc.
As I do a lot of interstate weddings I do communicate with clients a lot through phone, skype and email etc. I am always available to discuss any part of your wedding photography and answer any questions you may have along the planning process.
What happens after the wedding:
After the wedding I will send you a USB drive of high-resolution edited wedding images and provide you with a link to a password protected online gallery.
If you have an album package I will arrange a post wedding appointment at my studio in Berry where you can select your album options. I will then do a pre design of your album based on photos you’ve selected and email it to you. To prevent an album backlog we allow a 4 week period for you to make any album changes.
For interstate clients I will email you a preview of your album.
How long will the images take to edit:
On average the editing process will take up to 4 weeks but may be longer depending on the number of weddings at the time. Please allow around 3 weeks after the images are edited for the design of your album. The turnaround time for Queensberry albums being made is usually around 4 to 6 weeks but may vary as well. Queensberry albums are all handmade.
What equipment do you use:
I use Nikon professional cameras which have dual card slots so there is protection against a memory card failure. I also use a wide range of pro series lenses to capture different types of images and professional off camera lighting and video light as we love night images. I am a member of Nikon Professional Services NPS.
Do you have a contract:
Yes as a professional photographer I have a wedding agreement designed to protect both you and me. After booking me I will send you the agreement for you to read over it, electronically sign and return to me. If you have any questions about the agreement please feel free to contact me.
How do we book you:
Please check my availability on my website. If you decide to hire me for your wedding, you will be emailed a booking enquiry form to fill out with your details.
Wedding dates are only secured on receipt of a non-refundable $500 retainer and the remaining amount is due 4 weeks prior to your wedding date.
Once the retainer is received a wedding contract will be sent to you to fill out and sign. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me at:
